The third book picks up where the second left, and by a long shot this book is much better than the second book. I enjoyed the second book plenty, but this third book absolutely is a great sequal. It ties up the plot from the second book while also going through its own story arc. I appreciate the effort the author puts into his writing and the direction the story takes.

Such a letdown from the past 2 installments. Difficult and punishing skill checks, unintuitive guessing games, and a plot that veers all over the place. No room for character development or choices that make any sense - I may as well have gone with a premade character. My choices didn't matter, and I just felt like a voyeur on my own character. It's the longest book yet, and I found myself wildly clicking options praying it would end soon.

More action than the previous book but very inconsistent choices that penalize you harshly especially during vague or very similar options. Very frustrating and can uproot your game and damage the story you've been forming across 3 books. I've enjoyed the series, but this one was too frustrating.

After finishing, I have to echo the reviews saying that the Atonement system doesn't work in this one. You can't play your personality anymore, you have to choose the "right" story choice, regardless of whether it matches being Calculated or Stoic, etc. The writing overall is a huge quality drop too, falling back on tropes like a girl being raped purely to motivate a guy. You spend the back half of the story forced to be incompetent just to set up an ending, which is frustrating and no fun to play
